Home News Mandatory training on the safe use of diisocyanates

Diisocyanates, which are mainly found in products with specific applications in construction, can cause health issues if used incorrectly, including damage to the skin and respiratory tract. To prevent this, European authorities have adopted a REACH restriction stating that industrial and professional users of products containing more than 0.1% monomeric diisocyanate concentration must be trained and certified to handle diisocyanates safely by 24 August 2023.

Which IKO products fall under this restriction?

IKO flexia liquid waterproofing

  • IKO tanetech Detail
  • IKO tanetech BT
  • IKO tanetech R-UV
  • IKO tanetech Quartz Binder
  • IKO tanetech Finish

IKO pro polyurethane adhesives

  • IKO pro Fix gun
  • IKO pro Sprayfast
  • IKO pro PU Adhesive

What does the training consist of?

You’ll find the online training modules on the website of the European federations ISOPA and ALIPA. Each module lasts 30-40 minutes and costs €5. If the participant passes the test at the end of the training session, they will receive a certificate that’s valid for five years.

Who must complete which training module?

Taking into account the information available on 1 May 2023, IKO recommends the following training courses:

  • Every employee in your company who handles sealed packaging of the above-mentioned IKO flexia coatings or IKO pro polyurethane adhesives should follow module ‘045 – Basic Training’.
  • End users who install the above-mentioned IKO flexia coatings should follow module ‘049 – Professional Application / Flooring and Waterproofing Applications’.
  • End users who install the above-mentioned IKO pro polyurethane adhesives should follow module ‘048 – Professional Application of Adhesives and Sealants / Small Packaging at Ambient Temperature’.

IKO refers to the website of the European federations ISOPA and ALIPA to select the appropriate training module for your employees and end users.
